Bad Clay Hensley… is Bad; Hating Scott Boras

bad clay hensley.jpg

Okay, I’m sure there’s a reason the Astros signed this guy.  But it wasn’t because he gave up eight runs last night against the Mets.  Maybe it was because his ERA last year was 5+?  Oh, no, no, it’s because he’s from Tomball!

Who remembers Jason Jennings?  Yeah, Rockies fans remember the dominant Jennings who won NL Rookie of the Year honors.  But I’m sure you’ll also remember sitting at home laughing when Jennings gave up a bazillion eleven runs in 2/3 an inning against the Padres in 2007 while Willy Taveras tore up Coors Field being awesome and Taylor Buchholz and Jason Hirsh pitched solidly.  Since I am both an Astros and a Rockies fan, I remember hating Tim Purpura for making the trade.  But now I look back on it and think.  Jason Jennings is doing nil.  He’s hopping from minor league contract to minor league contract.  Jason Hirsh is hurt almost all the time.  Taylor Buchholz is doing pretty well, but Willy Taveras was non-tendered and struggled in 2008.  This trade pretty much broke even.

Where was I going with this?  Well, a lot of people said that we traded for Jennings just because he is from Dallas and went to Baylor.  Those people generally didn’t know that Jennings was ROY in 2002 and was extremely beastin’ while with the Rox (all-time winningest pitcher), but I think they might have had a good point.  I feel like the Astros are a little bit obsessed with local talent.  Now, that’s not the only reason that we signed Clay Hensley, obviously–we have to have seen something in him–but he was God-awful last night.  He single-handedly gave up eight runs in one inning against the Mets.  I actually stopped watching my recording of the game because it got so bad–the final was 13-1 Mets.  Good Lord.

nasty manny.jpgIn other news:

Well, Scott Boras and the Dodgers have come to a standstill over his blockbuster client, Manny Ramirez.  Am I the only one screaming for the Dodgers to leave him alone?

I mean, not only do I want the Dodgers to SUCK so the Rox can have a remote chance to do something in the standings, but I feel like the Dodgers’ obvious desperation to sign ManRam is playing exactly into Scott Boras’ nasty, grubby, disgusting greedy hands.  Time and time again, Scott Boras has proven that he can get what he wants.  When a team, like the Dodgers here, decides they want Manny and make it public, Boras will do whatever he can to milk the most money out of the team.  I feel like if we just leave Manny alone, Boras will get desperate and lower the offer, or nobody will sign ManRam and the manipulative agent will have learned his lesson.

Pointless Ramblings:

I spent all day yesterday at the Houston College Classic, so I’ll put some pictures and whatnot up later today or tomorrow.  I have to find my SD card reader.

Spring Training in Pictures #5

luke bats.jpg

If you’ve been paying any attention at all, you should know that Luke Scott is my second favorite baseball player (behind Tulo).  He’s extremely nice, gave me a high five, recognized me at games, is vocally Christian, and speaks Spanish.  And by the way, we lost him when we traded for an old juicing liar Miguel Tejada.  Getty Images brings us this beautiful ACTION SHOT (:D) of his awesome swing.  Go #30!

I really didn’t want to have pictures of the same guy over and over again, but a) it’s TULO, and b) I love action shots.  This one from the AP is particularly cool because not only is it a great action shot, but it’s a JUMPING SHOT.  And Tulo is wearing the really cool goggles.  But I seriously love jumping shots.  The photographer captures the moment that lasted less than a second but will now live on as long as we want.

Okay, that sounds really dumb.  But seriously.  I LOVE THIS PICTURE.

Alright.  If you don’t think Tim Lincecum is cute, you’re a liar.  He might be the most adorable little kid in baseball right now.  This photo from the AP showcases his loveable crooked-toothed grin.  This kid is the shiz.  Who knows where the Giants will go once the rest of their team gets their crap together–Timmeh is gonna be great.

smiling lance.jpg

I love Lance Berkman.  Can I just put that out there?  Everything I’ve ever read about him has told me that he is a loveable jokester who works his hardest on everything he does.  He went to Rice–hometown boy, plus he must be brilliant.  However, last year in Kissimmee I also heard that he takes a golf cart out the secret exit of the park because he doesn’t want to sign autographs.  Who knows, maybe he has really ugly handwriting?

Anyway, here’s a picture of Lance from the AP that made me grin right along with him, and I hope it makes you smile too.

nasty growth.jpg

Here is picture #1 for my little picture activity.  This particular photo is from the Associated Press and features a remarkably nasty growth on Troy Tulowitzki’s face.  What were you thinking, my dear?  Did you drop your razor in the toilet?  I think it might take a lawnmower to get all that off.  You’re much too young to be so damn furry.

Entering a new era!

So the new blog changes are here.

But seriously, who’s surprised?

I think the new title is really clever… do you agree?  I was pretty proud of myself for thinking of it.

There has been an arrest for Sabrina’s death.  We’ll wait and see how the trial goes.  Thanks for all your prayers and support–her family really needs y’all right now.

I’m going to try and post a picture every day/every entry during Spring Training, but I don’t have one ready so I will be sure to do that when I get home.

It’s Ash Wednesday, so I’m hungry.  I have to go find a bottle of water or something to silence my stomach.

This is my last entry…

…until after the “big changes.”

Haha, had you there, didn’t I?  No, I bet I didn’t.

I flunked a calc test today because I couldn’t concentrate.  The prayer service last night was nice, but everyone’s still looking for information.  We don’t know yet when the funeral can be–probably not until after the investigation is complete, and right now we have no clue what happened or if it’s related to another kidnapping that happened on Feb. 2.

On a happier note…

I cannot wait until April.  Have I said that enough times yet?  I wish I were going to spring training again this year, but I’m not.  The most baseball I will have until April is college baseball.

This is an extremely random and all-over-the-place entry, and I don’t know why.  I have a Bones recording on TNT right now and I think I’m distracted because I keep thinking about it… I should probably go watch that now.
